Imprivata Helps Drive Healthland Hospital's Electronic Medical Record Adoption
OneSign Eliminates Password Problems for Clinicians Accessing Electronic Patient Information at Glacial Ridge Health System
LEXINGTON, MA September 16, 2009 Imprivata®, Inc., the employee access management company and largest provider of healthcare single sign-on (SSO), today announced that Glacial Ridge Health System is leveraging its OneSign Platform as part of its successful transition to electronic medical records (EMR). With OneSign in place, the facility has been able to eliminate critical password management challenges associated with the transition from a paper-based system to EMR.
Based in Glenwood, Minnesota, Glacial Ridge Health System is a not-for-profit, critical access hospital comprised of three area medical centers. In 2006 Glacial Ridge began the move to EMR as part of an effort to provide clinicians with immediate access to patient data, while improving security, increasing productivity, and ultimately offering an even higher level of patient care. It was this transition that brought to light the need for a healthcare single sign-on solution for Healthland that would give providers convenient access while ensuring the integrity of all patient data.
“The move to EMR made it immediately apparent that we needed an SSO component to manage the several strong passwords required to access patient information,” said Heidi Engle, CIO, EMR Project Manager at Glacial Ridge Health System. “OneSign is a good fit for us as we have limited IT resource. Additionally, maintenance is minimal. We just set it up and it runs. Now we have fast SSO access to all patient records, which lets us deliver the highest quality of service while improving productivity for the organization as a whole.”
Glacial Ridge purchased OneSign in September of 2008 after which they quickly profiled all Healthland applications including clinical information management, financial management, physician practice documentation (PPD) and scheduling. The facility went live with OneSign in November and today, with Glacial Ridge 85% of the way through its EMR adoption, providers have SSO access to patient records throughout the hospital including clinical areas, ER and their offices.
“Healthcare providers today are looking to improve efficiency and patient care while increasing the security of their organizations,” said Omar Hussain, president and CEO of Imprivata. “By allowing clinicians convenient and secure access to EMR, we help organizations such as Glacial Ridge give their team fast and secure access to patient information, from anywhere. The end result is that providers are able to spend their time focusing on critical patient issues, not IT issues.”
Imprivata’s OneSign simplifies end-user authentication to applications and makes it easier for care providers to access patient data. OneSign easily integrates with several healthcare applications and includes support for shared workstations, roaming desktops, fast user switching, a broad range of integrated strong authentication options (proximity cards, finger biometrics, ID tokens) and password policy implementation and management.
In addition to Glacial Ridge Health Systems, many other Healthland customers are successfully using OneSign for secure and convenient employee access to patient data. These organizations include Glencoe Regional Health Services, Box Butte General Hospital, Perkins County Health Services and Harney District Hospital to name a few.
