Over a decade after ‘Meaningful Use’ – a program that was supposed to improve quality at the point of patient care – clinicians are still struggling to do their jobs. But is technology becoming the problem? Although the transition to electronic health records (EHR) was meant to make healthcare faster and safer, accessing it (efficiently) has proven to be a major obstacle.

Delivering care requires constant interactions with technology, so accessing a patient’s digital medical record should not hold providers back. Yet, it’s one of the biggest barriers in the clinical workflow. The average clinician spends 15 minutes per patient accessing technology, diverting precious time and resources from providing care. Despite wide recognition of the burnout facing HDOs, there have been few initiatives to solving the main culprit of this inconvenience: inefficient EHR access.
