Mobile management frameworks for BYOD policy, security
Secure messaging capabilities, virtualized desktop implementation and single sign on innovations were just a few of the menu items served up at Imprivata’s HealthCon 12 this week, which I was lucky enough to attend, getting to meet, greet and learn from a great group of health IT geeks. SearchHealthIT also had the unique opportunity to lead a panel discussion on the changing mobile health ecosystem, exploring the topic with provider executives charged creating mHealth frameworks and steering the BYOD ship.
Ian Hyatt, vice president and chief technology officer of Rhode Island’s largest health care system, Lifespan Health, commented that hospital residents look at him like he’s an alien when he tells them they don’t have a mobile network set up in house. “We know everyone is using mobile, and we’re doing everything we can to develop safe frameworks.”
Sallie Arnett, vice president of information systems at Licking Memorial Health Systems in Newark, Ohio, commented that IT needs to be the driving force behind any BYOD framework to ensure mobile is integrated safely and strategically. “We need to have a mindset of change and IT needs to be the enabler.”
Chief Medical Officer of Imprivata, Dr. Sean Kelly, M.D., currently practicing at teaching hospital Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, pointed out that while EMRs aren’t always difficult to use, they “sure aren’t made for me as a doctor to optimize care. You should be suspicious of vendors who aren’t willing to be your design partners. You need to target the ones who can see a lot of green space and have the ability to grow and develop with you.”
