Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Selects HP to Improve and Integrate Patient Care
Clinical portal from Orion Health with single sign-on from Imprivata will provide clinicians with fast, secure 24/7 real-time access to health records
SHEFFIELD, UK, January 14, 2015 – HP Enterprise Services UK today announced that it has been selected by Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as prime contractor in a project to improve patient care by enabling an integrated view of patient information.
Under the project, a new Clinical Portal from Orion Health with single sign-on from Imprivata will provide the Trust’s staff and clinicians with fast, secure real-time access to health records, whatever their location, improving clinical productivity and allowing them to spend more time with patients.
Comprising five of Yorkshire’s best known teaching hospitals - the Royal Hallamshire, Northern General, Charles Clifford Dental, Weston Park Cancer and Jessop Wing Maternity Hospitals – and with around 15,000 employees, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals (STH) is one of the UK’s busiest NHS Foundation Trusts, and one of Sheffield’s biggest employers. As part of the Shelford Group, STH delivers state-of-the-art training and education opportunities for clinicians, as well as the fundamental infrastructure for the UK’s medical research sector.
“We aim to be recognised as the best provider of health, clinical research and education in the UK, and a strong contributor to Sheffield’s aspiration to be a vibrant and healthy city,” said Dr David Throssell, Medical Director, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. “HP was the only vendor able to deliver a market leading clinical portal combined with a proven single sign-on solution at the most advantageous terms. As the first phase of our wider Transformation Through Technology programme, this clinically-led project will help the Trust achieve our vision of integrated care.”
Working with Orion Health and Imprivata, HP will provide an up-to-date view of all clinical activity within the Trust while ensuring the security of patient-related data. Clinicians will have a fuller picture of patients’ medical history, and staff will be able to coordinate care more effectively. As a result, patients will benefit from better quality of care, quicker access to results and a smoother journey through the hospital.
Orion Health will provide around 7,000 users with secure, appropriate online access to patient records at the point of care, helping to improve clinical outcomes through better-informed decision making and risk analysis.
“Our web-based Clinical Portal, Rhapsody Integration Engine and Healthcare Pathways will give the Trust cutting-edge systems to support the radical change in care that needs to be delivered over coming years,” said Colin Henderson, managing director, UK & Ireland, Orion Health. “As part of this project, the Trust will also be implementing electronic patient record and electronic management systems.”
Imprivata’s industry-leading authentication and access management solutions will give STH clinicians fast, secure access to systems and information simply by tapping their existing ID badge. Imprivata’s solutions eliminate the need to manually enter and re-enter usernames and passwords, which increases productivity while meeting data security requirements.
“Imprivata works with more than half of the acute care NHS Trusts, which has given us a deep understanding of their clinical workflows and data security requirements,” said Chris Shaw, general manager of the Imprivata OneSign Products Group. “We are committed to developing strong strategic partnerships with our customers, and look forward to working closely with HP and Orion Health to help STH successfully launch this innovative project to streamline care coordination and support collaboration.”
The project complements plans unveiled by Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group and Sheffield City Council to establish a single service that ensures optimum support for patients needing urgent care. This involves bringing together around 20 separate but linked services currently provided by STH, Sheffield Health and Social Care Foundation Trust, the City Council, GPs and others.
“Forward-looking healthcare providers like STH know that integrating information around the patient journey and improving clinical productivity is key to improving patient care and reducing risks,” said Anjanish Shekhar, Account Manager, HP. “HP’s New Style of IT can help integrate primary, acute and social care by enabling clinicians to access context-sensitive views of patient information from multiple systems, no matter where they are.”
