Notes from the Road 19 – Healthcare IT with RES and Imprivata
Last week was a new experience for me in many ways. I attended the first annual Imprivata Healthcon user conference. And while this blog is about my experiences on the road representing RES at industry events and such, technically this week I was not “on the road”. Healthcon 2012 was hosted in my home town of Boston Massachusetts, right on the historic Charles River with splendid views of Harvard, MIT, Fenway Park and the Boston skyline. And the best part was, at the end of the day, I got to get into my car and go home.
RES was a gold sponsor at this inaugural event. We joined the likes of VMware, Citrix, and Coretek, making up an elite group of software and services companies that have strong solutions that are focused— like a surgeon’s scalpel on a tonsillectomy,—on healthcare IT.
Healthcon 2012 was a very impressive event. If you didn’t know, it was Imprivata’s first ever user conference, but you would never have been able to tell. It went off like clockwork. For 2 solid days 110+ healthcare IT professionals gathered for sessions on everything from HIPAA compliance to overcoming obstacles to meeting Meaningful Use deadlines. The conversations with the attendees were some of the most involved I have experienced at any show to date. It seemed as if everyone there was in the same boat. They all had a compelling event that drove them to look at technologies and solutions they had not even considered a year ago.
All of the HIT professionals I talked to at Healthcon 2012 agreed that supplying the clinicians with a consistent user experience across any and all of their access points was essential. But I must make an argument that consistency, while essential to acceptance, is just the tip of the thermometer. Really it is a combination of a consistent and controlled desktop that will make the adoption of clinical use across the care cycle a success.
