Glencoe Regional Health Services Simplifies Password Management And Improves Productivity With Imprivata OneSign
Minnesota-Based Health Service Enables Users to Easily Access Over 30 Different Applications in a Given Day With Single Sign-On
LEXINGTON, MA July 16, 2009 Imprivata®, Inc., the employee access management company, today announced that Glencoe Regional Health Services (GRHS), a Minnesota-based not-for-profit healthcare organization, recently implemented the Imprivata OneSign Platform to increase enterprise security and eliminate a growing password management problem.
GRHS has a large user base needing access to critical information at a moment’s notice. As the organization set up its health information system and put data security in place to protect patient information, staff were finding that there were several separate password protected applications that needed to be accessed through the course of the day; in fact, the average user in the business office needed to remember about 20 different log-ins and passwords. It soon became clear that a solution was needed to better manage passwords and allow staff to focus on patent care. With this in mind, GRHS turned to Imprivata.
“While our Healthland system housed the majority of our data, staff also needed to access patient and insurance information from many other applications on a regular basis. This created a situation where there were several different password formats and requirements to remember,” said Michael Sprandel, ITBMC, network administrator, Glencoe Regional Health Services. “With staff frustration rising and the security risk of writing down or sharing passwords looming, we decided that Imprivata OneSign was the perfect solution. Its ability to be integrated within our existing system was a strong factor in our decision.”
Because the IT group at GRHS had limited resources, it was important that whatever solution they chose could be easily installed within the organization’s current technology framework. Imprivata’s single sign-on software required no additional programming or changes to the organization’s Active Directory or existing application code—and Imprivata’s Application Profile Generator, a drag-and-drop tool, allowed GRHS to quickly profile all applications’ sign-on behaviors and dynamics.
“Healthcare organizations such as Glencoe Regional Health Services are seeing the importance of technology like our OneSign Platform that can solve several problems at once—password management, security, user satisfaction and productivity,” added Omar Hussain, president and CEO of Imprivata. “Access management—especially in the healthcare industry—needs to be a seamless process that protects confidential data and information without slowing down staff as they do their jobs.”
Imprivata’s OneSign Platform enables secure employee access, improves user productivity and lowers overall costs, helping to protect a growing number of healthcare organizations’ critical information assets. It makes it easier to manage and demonstrate compliance with healthcare industry regulations, whether tasked with HIPAA compliance or the UK Data Protection Act. OneSign seamlessly integrates strong authentication, enterprise single sign-on, physical access control, user provisioning and event reporting to provide one enterprise-wide automated employee information access policy managed and enforced within a single, easy-to-use administrative framework.
