TDG Logistics Secures Password Management with Imprivata OneSign
Single sign-on delivers cost savings of up to £8,000 per month
LEXINGTON, MA - April 21, 2008- Imprivata®, Inc., the converged identity and access management appliance company, today announced that TDG, a leading European supply chain management company, has completed the implementation of Imprivata OneSign Single Sign-On (SSO) to secure user access to applications and reduce its password management overheads. The company has enrolled 1,400 of its staff in the UK for single sign-on, and expects to make a saving of up to £8,000 per month by eliminating password reset requests.
TDG has an outsourced IT helpdesk that is responsible for helping employees with any issue they are facing, including forgotten passwords. However, the volume of calls that were being placed around reset requests was becoming a significant cost to the business. Peter Ratcliffe, IT Customer Services Manager for TDG wanted to remove these password reset calls and reduce overall costs. Working with Imprivata partner Logicalis, he decided that OneSign Single Sign-On would meet the needs of the business.
“We have a strong password policy in place to ensure that user access is kept secure: for example our finance and expenses systems have to be protected against unauthorised access. However, because most users only access these applications infrequently, this had led to a large number of password reset requests being put through the IT helpdesk. Users would also write their passwords down to remember them which breached our security policy,” said Ratcliffe. “By implementing Imprivata OneSign, we can enforce our security policy automatically, and users don’t actually have to remember their passwords. Following the completion of the project, we have seen a substantial reduction in reset request calls: in the first month, we estimate that we already have about 200 less calls per month around password resets, which in turn has led to a significant drop in our helpdesk costs. We expect to achieve double this figure in future, with around 400 calls per month eliminated.”
Employees at TDG now benefit from simpler access to applications, and don’t have to remember their passwords. All log-ins can be changed in the background, and automatically meet the company’s rules on character number, password structure and overall strength of the credential.
Omar Hussain, CEO of Imprivata, commented, “This is a good example of how Imprivata OneSign SSO can provide a direct return on investment to the business - especially when a company has outsourced elements of its operation. We see interest in identity management increasing across the wider market, and our appliance-based approach makes implementing this type of technology extremely simple and effective for customers.”
