Imprivata Raises the Bar on Strong Authentication Management and End-User Workflow Capabilities
Support for New Authentication Factors and Enhanced Workflows Strengthens Security for Enterprise and Drives End User Convenience
LEXINGTON, MA- November 17, 2008 - Imprivata®, Inc., the converged authentication and access management company, today announced new capabilities within its appliance-based OneSign® Platform focused on strong authentication management and end user workflows. These new features of OneSign enable customers to leverage workflow-centric enhancements and take advantage of a wider array of authentication factors to ensure security best practices, while gaining greater user productivity.
“Security has become embedded in our everyday lives, and technology must support this seamlessly and holistically while not impeding employee productivity; otherwise people will resist adoption and security will be rendered ineffective,” said Omar Hussain, president and CEO of Imprivata. “More than half of our growing customer base incorporates strong authentication into their working environments and utilize OneSign as the integrated management point, demonstrating the real-world value this, combined with single sign-on and physical-logical access integration, delivers to companies worldwide. Imprivata is committed to its leadership role in developing innovative security solutions that are both affordable and easy-to-use while also convenient for end-users.”
Strong Authentication Management
New capabilities in the OneSign platform enable customers to utilize a greater variety of strong authentication options to deliver enhanced security while providing the flexibility to deploy security modalities that their employees will use. These enhancements include:
- Authentec biometric sensor support: provides customers the ability to leverage the embedded biometric sensors found in many of the most common devices such as HP, Fujitsu and Lenovo laptops, Motion Computing tablets as well as other devices that contain the Authentec biometric technology. Combined with OneSign’s support for UPEK sensors, the platform now supports the vast majority of embedded fingerprint sensors – letting customers leverage these devices for complete enterprise and shared deployability while also enabling users to mix and match readers in their environment with no additional management or enrollment overhead
- Enhanced walk-away security: in addition to existing features for locking/logging off a shared workstation – new enhancements include the ability to tap a proximity card/badge to lock the workstation; setting an inactivity time and/or a hot key for system lockout; and utilizing smart card removal and enabling Xyloc badges to lock the previous workstation during Citrix session roaming
- PIN as an authentication factor: a unique feature that enables users to remember just a 4 digit pin used in combination with their strong authentication mode – similar to a banking ATM experience
“Companies require strong authentication capabilities to fortify their security architecture, but seek flexible options their employees can utilize to make adherence to policies easy as they go about their workday,” said Jon Oltsik, senior analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group. “By adding PIN as an authentication factor and Authentec biometric sensor support to the wide array of popular factors OneSign already supports, Imprivata customers are able to quickly enroll and manage employees across a myriad factors that work best for their individual business environments.”
End-User Workflows
Enhanced session management capabilities enable customers to let employees focus on productivity while the technology manages the security. These capabilities include:
- Fast user switching for multiple desktops: multiple users on a shared workstation can access their personal Windows desktop without having to log on and off of Windows each time a user switch occurs, providing ‘hot application’ access
- Citrix/terminal server fast user switching support: multiple users can securely share the same Citrix/Terminal Server without incurring any lengthy logon times. Users are quickly and securely signed on and off the applications during user switches, providing employees with faster access to application data
- Citrix/terminal server roaming: OneSign automatically roams the user’s Citrix/Remote Desktop session when they move to different workstations, enabling seamless workflows and continuous productivity in active environments
“Our clinicians and physicians must log-on and off of applications on a continuous basis throughout the day, and the shutdown and start-up processes of each application can consume valuable time – especially on shared workstations, “said Christopher Paidhrin, security compliance officer, HIPAA & IT security officer, Southwest Washington Medical Center. “The new fast user switching capabilities, ‘hot application’ support and walk-away security allows staff to securely keep applications open between user sessions. These improved workflows provide even faster access to patient data, while retaining the strong security framework we’ve come to expect from Imprivata.”
Additional New Functionalities
In addition to these strong authentication management and end user workflows enhancement capabilities, OneSign also delivers other new features including:
- Integration with Tivoli Identity Manager, the latest in a series of strategic provisioning partnerships that enables improved security and efficient management of user credentials from an employee’s first day to last day
- Embedded connectivity of the AMAG Symmetry physical access control system within OneSign Physical/Logical
- Nedap AEOS physical access control system integration with OneSign Physical/Logical
- Support for Windows Server 2008 and Microsoft SoftGrid Support
